[ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE] April 27, 2009 — Coyote Logistics LLC is Atlanta’s fastest-growing private company. The third-party logistics firm led the field in the annual Pacesetter award, given by Atlanta Business Chronicle to those companies that are ahead of the curb in terms of revenue growth. The 2009 Pacesetters were announced Friday, April 24 at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Alpharetta-based Coyote Logistics’ revenue grew 587.5 percent from 2006 to 2008 according to the company. They also increased the number of the employees from 82 in 2006 to about 350 at the end of 2008.

Rounding out the top five fastest growing private companies were SecurAmerica LLC, which spent the last two years at the top of the list; MailExpress Inc., a performance mail company that grew revenue by 2,500 percent since 2006; Cork-Howard Construction Co., a firm that focuses on building health-care facilities, hospitals and data centers; and Access Insurance Holdings Inc., which experienced a 302 percent increase in revenue.

In order to qualify, the company had to be privately owned, based in the 20-county metro Atlanta area and not be a subsidiary of another company. It has to have been established in the first quarter of 2006 or earlier, and to have had 2008 revenue between $1 million and $300 million.

The companies are ranked according to a growth index formula, which is used to even the field among companies of different sizes. The revenue and employee growth indexes are the percent change from 2006 through 2008 multiplied by the absolute change for the same years. A company’s average employee or revenue growth index is the growth index divided by the average growth index of all companies that qualify. The weighted average growth index is a company’s average employee index score plus its average revenue index score. Employee growth was weighted 40 percent and revenue growth was weighted 60 percent.
