The Chicago Innovation Awards, celebrating its 11th year, is the only organization in the country dedicated to honoring the most innovative new products or services brought to the market or public service from a specific region. This year, almost 400 nominations were received. The top 10 winners were: BrightTag, Catamaran, RecallConnect, Coyote, Cummins Allison, Littelfuse, Medline Industries, Options City, Borealis, and SMS Assist.
“The most important message of the Chicago Innovation Awards is one of confidence and courage,” said cofounder Thomas D. Kuczmarski, with Chicago journalist Dan Miller, of the awards. “The economy is challenging, but each nominee believes the simple truth that a powerful new product or service will find a rewarding market and has the courage to pursue their vision.”
The goal behind Coyote Logistics’ Private Fleet service is to eliminate empty miles in which a truck is driving back empty to its home base so it can be assigned to another outbound load. Utilizing a network of available freight and proprietary technology, Coyote is able fill these empty legs for the private fleets, thus eliminating empty miles, reducing CO2 exhaust, and providing an additional source of revenue for shippers.
“In an economy like this, every one of our potential customers is looking for ways to be more efficient,” said Coyote CEO Jeff Silver. “Instead of trucks going out from two companies and crossing each other empty in the night, we’re using one truck to move product for both companies. It’s a massive opportunity to help. It helps us, it helps our customers, our carriers, and it helps the environment.”
This year, 13 judges, representing a range of Chicago’s business community leaders, led an exhaustive and complex judging process to select the final 10 winners of the Chicago Innovation Awards.
“Chicago is a great place to have a business—we are surrounded by innovative companies and eager employees ready to make a name for themselves in this great city,” said Silver.
